How far in advance should I book?

Hakone is a popular destination from Tokyo.We recommend making a reservation as early as possible and ideally, at least a month in advance.

When is it Peak Season and what does that mean for this tour?

There are many peak seasons in Hakone, but it is especially busy during Autumn as Hakone is one of the most beautiful locations of Japan to view autumn foliage. During peak season, there will be heavy traffic on the roads and may take two to three times the duration to travel between locations by bus at Hakone.

Other peak holidays include Golden Week (May 6th to 27th), the Obon Holidays (August 11th to 20th), and the New Year Holidays (December 28th – January 6th).

How does the room at the ryokan work if I have children?

The Olympics Old and New Architecture Tour explores both the previously-built and newly renovated or newly developed venues for Olympics in Tokyo. In this 4 hour tour, learn about the architecture, history and significance in these highly anticipated works of art that will soon be showcased to the world. 

For the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Games 2020, there will be a total of 42 venues hosting the games. Will we enter the venues?

The Olympics Old and New Architecutre Tour will visit some of the most important Olympics venues in Tokyo, but guests will not be able to enter the venue (there may be openings for venues after the Olympics is but not before). You can marvel at the architecture of the venues and learn about their cultural significance from outside the venues.

The Anime Studio Visit and Workshop with Japan Awaits is a 4-hour experience at a local Anime Studio in Tokyo, where guests will be able to visit the anime studio and attend a short workshop to learn how to draw anime and manga characters.

This is the perfect tour for anime/ manga lovers. In this 4-hour tour, visit Nerima area where many of the animation studios in Japan are based. A professional animation artist will go over the fundamentals of animation, as well as teach guests how to draw some of their favorite anime characters. After learning about anime and manga from the anime artist and trying their hand at drawing, the guests will take a tour of an animation studio in the area; some of the most famous anime/manga that have been produced here include Dragonball, One Piece, Initial D and more.

Anime is a particular style of animation that originated or is associated with Japan. Anime can be hand-drawn and/or computer-animated, and is generally characterized with high contrast, bright colors, and with thematic science fiction/fantasy elements in its storyline.

Anime began in the early 20th century in Japan, and is known all over the world. The influence of the anime industry can be found everywhere around Japan, with over 430 anime production studios constantly producing new content for international consumption. In 2016, Japanese anime accounts for 60% of the world’s animated television shows and brings in more than $19 billion USD a year. 

The Sumo Tournament Experience in Tokyo with Japan Awaits is an experience at the famous Grand Sumo Tournament that occurs only three times a year in Tokyo (January, May, and September). The experience allows guests to learn about sumo traditions and culture with an English-speaking tour guide (expert in sumo wrestling) while watching one of the most exciting sports in Japan.

Sumo originated in Japan and is one of Japan’s most well-known sports. It is considered as a gendai budo (Japanese martial art) with a history spanning many centuries. The sport is known for its highly regimented rules and strict traditions for its wrestlers. Most sumo wrestlers are required to live in communal heya (sumo training stables) with all aspects of their daily lives, including their meals and how they dress, closely monitored.

The Sumo Tournament Experience is a 4-hour experience at the official basho (sumo tournament) with a group of up to 17 people. On this tour, not only will you learn about many ancient Japanese traditions that have been preserved in sumo, including ritual elements such as the use of salt purification, you’ll also get to cheer on and greet the most famous sumo wrestlers in Japan as they are entering the stadium for their big match. Once you are inside of the stadium, you’ll be seated at B-class reserved seats (or C-class in some cases), which has the a great overview of the match with chair seatings in the stadium. Chanko nabe, also known as “sumo stew”, is a Japanese stew (hot pot) that contains chicken stock as the soup base with various vegetables. Chanko originated from the Ryokoku area and sumo wrestlers are known to eat a lot of it because a large amount of chanko can be cooked at once and many people can eat at the same time, perfect for sumo wrestlers who are hungry from training.

If dinner option is selected at checkout, the chanko hot pot dinner will be the default meal (please let us know if you would prefer sukiyaki, vegetarian, or if you have any other special dietary requirements on the “Special Requirements” field at checkout. Please understand that once we have accepted your dinner request, changes cannot be made one week before the tour date.

Is food provided?

No, food is not provided, but snacks, drinks and merchandise are available for purchase at the stands in the stadium.

What if Japan Awaits is not able to get tickets?

If on the off-chance that we cannot get the tickets for the date you booked, we will suggest other dates. If no baseball game tickets are available on the dates you’re in Tokyo, we will provide you with a full refund.

What is the difference between the seating?

• Tokyo Dome (Yomiuri Tokyo Giants):
  S Seats: The seats are located right behind the batter, in the heart of the action
  A Seats: The seats are located behind the first and the third base, with a good view of the entire field and the players on the bench.
  B Seats: The seats are behind the foul pole, with a good view of the outfielder’s play.
  C Seats: The seats are located on the second floor, outside of S, A, and B seats, with a view of the entire field and can better see home-runs.
  Standing Seats: The Seats are located inside the black line of the layout picture.
  Left and Right Side Seats: The seats are the best to see home-runs and where Giants’ fans’ are cheering the most.

Attire

Every city in Japan has a lot to offer. There are many aspects to the city and many hidden and local spots that you may not have seen or heard of before. In the Custom Tour form that will be sent to you after your booking, you’ll be able to let us know of any attractions you have already visited and would not like to see again on this tour. We will carefully review your requests and will create an itinerary based on your preferences.
